My Favorite Search Engine

I like using Google as my search engine, even though there are several other search engine such as:
1. Bing,
2. Yahoo search,
3. Dogpile, etc.

The display between all of the search engines is similar, and almost all search engines now have a feature that can guess what you are going to search.

I’m attached to Google because it’s simple and convenient to use, I like it’s simple and plain display and how they change the Google letter design with something that related with that particular date event (Christmas, 4th of July, etc.).

I have tried other search engine, but I always go back and use Google, because I’m used to it and attached to it. In my opinion, Google search result is more accurate to what I’m searching for, of course some people can argue that I’m being bias or subjective, but that’s the reason why people tend to use something more often than another thing, that sense of attachment to something.

Some people even argue that search engine makes people stupid: http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2008/07/is-google-making-us-stupid/6868/
I don’t agree with that opinion, because with using search engine it makes our access to raw data for our research unlimited. You can get any kind of information you need just a click away, of course you have to be careful with using the information that you get from the internet, make sure its eligible, trustworthy, and it would be better if you can use the search engine to find a book that can provide more accurate data about your research topics.

The weakness of a search engine in my opinion is how we get easily distracted by reading and opening links that we are not supposed to, simply because of our tendency to fulfill our curiosity. Sometimes when I type some keywords on the search engine it will look up for me several pages of links related with that keyword. Not all the link that they display is worthy for my research, some of them is advertisement or something else that totally unrelated. So, at this point, it is totally up to the user to decide, which data should they use and which data is totally useless for them. We cannot blame the search engine, it was there to help us, and yet we are the one who have to choose which one to use.

So in the end there's always a pro's and con's in life, we can choose to use search engine or not, we can complaint that search engine make us dumber, or we can praise it because it makes us smarter. In this era of technology it is always good to get more and more information, but to use the information wisely, carefully and selectively is what we're supposed to do.

And here's a video that compares Google, Yahoo and Bing that I find in Youtube:
